Polarized Lenses – The Instinctive Glare Killing Lenses

As the sun permeates its warmth through the clouds, uplifts our moods, provides energy and lights up the ‘City in the Sun’ and its environs, let’s explore the benefits of a particular lens that eliminates glare and provides us with  clearer, crispier Vision, thus allowing us to enjoy and acknowledge the colors of life in their real sense and context.

The lenses I am talking about are known as Polarized lenses – The instinctive Glare Killing Lenses. And true to the proclamation, Polarized lenses do indeed eliminate all glare and reproduce color in a more refined prospect. The biggest attribute of this material is that it provided crisp, clear Vision and protect our eyes from absolute Ultra Violet rays. Not only do they reduce the bright reflection and unwanted glare, polarized lenses also help improve visual clarity in bright situations. It is important to remember, polarized sunglasses won't protect you from staring directly at the sun.

So, what makes polarized lenses better than the non-polarized variant?

What we perceive as glare is usually reflected horizontal light.

Polarized lenses mitigate glare by using a chemical film either embedded in or applied to the lenses. The incoming horizontal light is absorbed by the chemical filter on polarized sunglasses, thereby removing glare, while still allowing vertical light to come through.

Polarized sunglasses also filter ambient light and go further by canceling out bright reflected light. This filter greatly reduces reflected light and makes images appear sharper and clearer, thus increasing visual clarity and comfort by providing sharper contrast across all surfaces.

Non-polarized lenses protect the eyes by treating all sunlight equally and reducing overall intensity. However, this does not tackle shimmer and sparkle if you're around water, snow, or glass.

The disadvantage of polarized lenses is that it's very difficult to see what's on any kind of screen. This is because LCD displays, such as navigation devices, also have polarized filters. However, new technological advances offer solutions to these challenges faced specifically by pilots and similar vocation personnel.

How do Polarized lenses work?

Glare distorts the true color of objects and makes them harder to distinguish, thus creating a very dangerous situation, especially while driving. All of us have definitely experienced blinding glare when the sun is going down in the evenings. This phenomenon virtually leaves us at the mercy of the situation, where for some long seconds we just cannot see what is infront of us. A similar situation presents itself to some of us who have experienced snow that has fallen on the ground. Polarized lenses absorb light off the horizontal surfaces and provide us with sharper visual acuity. Available in a variety of colors, Polarized lenses offer different levels of polarization. The darker the material the more the polarization.

By allowing only vertically oriented light to pass through and blocking the horizontally oriented light, these lenses eliminate glare to almost a 100%. Initially the only colors available on these lenses were gray & brown, however, recent technological advances have an increase in the color spectrum.
